What Is Business Management?

Business management is the coordination and organization of business activities. Business managers oversee operations and help employees reach their top productivity levels. A business manager may also supervise or train new employees, help a business reach its operational and financial objectives. The business environment is constantly changing. As a result, effective and efficient management requires learning and applying the latest techniques in management to advance your career and become a more valuable manager in an organization.

As a graduate of the Midland College (MC) business management program, you will be prepared to assume first-line supervisory positions in business organizations of every type. You will also be on a career track to higher levels of management as your experience grows in applying the concepts and techniques learned at Midland College.

At MC, Business Management is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program designed to prepare you to enter the job market in two years or less. Earn an associate degree or a specialty certificate to become job-ready for a competitive workplace. Graduates of this program may also pursue a bachelor’s degree in organizational management at MC or elsewhere.

The Associate of Applied Science for Business Management degree has a flexible offering of business courses. Students will learn practical management skills in the areas of goal setting, leadership, problem solving, human resources, and team building. These are skills required of successful employees, not just managers. By acquiring and applying knowledge in this field, students enhance their visibility and marketability on the job while demonstrating their capability of accepting new challenges.
