What Is History?

History is the study and documentation of past events and is a method through which we can examine both the past and the present. The discipline ranges from simple recitations of what has been recorded to in-depth analyses of why events took place, why chroniclers focused on particular circumstances and why they understood them in the ways they did. It also involves the exploration of new interpretations, revelation of newly discovered details and reframing of past events in ways that become relevant to societies or in ways that influencers work to make relevant. Favored interpretations of the past change, and historians can view it through different and evolving lenses.

Midland College provides students the opportunity to study the subject and transfer to a 4-year university through its history program.
